Electro geeks Hot Chip are due to play a very special ‘hidden gig’ in support of homeless charity Crisis.
Crisis works to help people left homeless and forced to live in the streets. In the current economic situation, the number of homeless people is expected to rise sharply this year.
The new gig program consists of a series of nine shows in unusual locations throughout May and June. Details of the shows will also be revealed at the last minute, with the charity saying this echoes the daily struggle of homeless people to find accommodation.
In a statement Hot Chip’s Al Doyle praised Crisis.
He said: “Whether they would like to admit it or not, most people have an image in their head of a ‘homeless person’, the old-fashioned and unhelpful figure of the down-and-out, who in fact is entirely unrepresentative of the majority of homeless people in the UK.”
“These are the hidden homeless, who for a variety of often very complex reasons have no regular accommodation. We hope our gig for Crisis will raise awareness of their plight, and are very happy to help the cause.”
Hot Chip will play their Crisis show on May 17th. Other groups scheduled to perform include Filthy Dukes, The Pipettes and Dodgy.
