Huge in size, scope and ambition Reading and Leeds just got bigger after confirming a number of new additions.
Both respected festivals in their own right, Reading and Leeds joined forces almost a decade ago to transform themselves into one of the country’s biggest music events. Capable of drawing massive crowds and huge names, the festival is one of the most prominent in Europe.
This year’s event is long since sold out, with the headliners including some spectacular coups. Oxford giants Radiohead are set to play a no doubt stunning headline set at the event, their only UK festival appearance of the summer.
The band’s back catalogue is breath-taking, and Radiohead’s performance at Glastonbury in 1997 has gone down in the annals of festival history. A recent jaunt around Central and South America demonstrated that the group are still on stunning form, with Radiohead taking German pioneers Kraftwerk along for the ride.
New additions to the bill include The Horrors. The London group arrived with a blizzard of hype but their debut album failed to capture the ferocious glamour of their live shows. Follow up record ‘Primary Colours’ has stunned critics with its breath-taking ambition, gaining stunning reviews.
The band have been added to the bill for Reading and Leeds and will be joined by some of the most hyped names around. Canadian trouble makers Crystal Castles are a sensational live act, but a recent show in the United States brought them some unwanted bad publicity.
Joining the chip tune terrorists at this year’s event is electro starlet Little Boots and returning songwriter Patrick Wolf. Wolf’s new album ‘The Bachelor’ was partially funded by his fans, and is intended to be the first of a double album.
The Rakes are also due to perform at the event, with the band set to be joined by several newcomers. Passion Pit’s debut album ‘Manners’ is a dizzying display of pop virtuosity, effortlessly blending electronic influences with a commercial sheen.
Returning UK hip hop don Lethal Bizzle is also set to perform at the event, with his new album due to be released over the summer.
