Ireland’s biggest music festival Oxegen has added some top names to the line up with The Horrors set to join the party.
Set in the rolling Irish countryside Oxegen has grown to become one of Europe’s top parties. The biggest festival in Ireland it is capable of attracting big names without losing sight of its origins as a friendly, small-scale event.
Last year the organisers gave fans a ballot on which one of the acts from 2008 they would most like to see again. Previewing their soon to be massive album ‘Only By The Night’ at the event, Kings Of Leon were the overwhelming winners of the poll and will return for a triumphant set this summer.
Also due to headline the County Kildare event are reformed Britpop legends Blur, playing their first Irish show in almost a decade. Belfast’s Snow Patrol are massive favourites with the Irish crowd, and their headline slot will surely be one of the highlights of the event.
New additions to the bill include The Horrors. Decked out in black, the group might not seem ideal summer listening but their spectacular live show is already the stuff of myth. Forthcoming album ‘Primary Colours’ could well see the band live up to their early hype, and you can listen to it HERE!
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have also been confirmed as playing Oxegen. The legendary Australian group released their last album ‘Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!’ in 2008 to widespread acclaim. Clearly enjoying producing some filthy rock ‘n’ roll, recent shows have found Nick Cave on ferocious form.
Other new additions include Scottish dance guru Calvin Harris, who recently shot to number one with his single ‘I’m Not Alone’. Homegrown heroes The Saw Doctors just keep on going, and the long serving Irish act will be greeted by their loyal fans of this summer’s Oxegen.
Further down the bill the likes of The Answer, Californian funk-rockers Iglu & Hartly and returning indie heroes Starsailor are set to play at the award winning event.
Sadly, it’s not all good news for Oxegen. Flame haired singer La Roux has been forced to pull out of the event due to touring commitments. The ‘In For The Kill’ star recently pulled an appearance at T In The Park, leading to speculation she would postpone her Irish jaunt.
Oxegen takes place between July 10th – 12th.
