Superstar American punks Green Day have added an extra date to their stint at Wembley Arena.
Green Day released their massively successful major label debut ‘Dookie’ back in the early 90s. Taking the punk fury of The Clash and Stiff Little Fingers, the band injected a pop touch and some heart on sleeve moments.
The following decade was a story of diminishing returns for the band, before their President baiting album ‘American Idiot’ rocketed them back into the the public consciousness. A blast at conservative American culture, the album was a rock opera and won across the board praise.
Since then, however, America has changed. The United States elected a progressive African-American president, and the nation is retreating from its involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan. Green Day, though, are still adopting a hectoring tone and their new album ’21st Century Breakdown’ has been met with mixed reviews.
Yet another concept album, the record is split into three parts and charts two lovers battling against an unjust nation. Click HERE to read a review of ’21st Century Breakdown’ but be warned – it’s not for the faint hearted!
Green Day are to celebrate the release of the album with a massive tour. Hitting the UK later this year, the band have already announced two dates at London’s Wembley Arena.
Due to over-whelming demand the band have been forced to add an extra Wembley date to their tour. Green Day will now play three nights in London, and will perform a two night residency in Manchester.
