Blur guitarist turned solo star Graham Coxon has unveiled a new group named ‘The Graham Coxon Power Acoustic Ensemble’.
Graham Coxon began his solo career making extremely difficult sounding indie music. Inspired by lo-fi indie punks such as Swell Maps he seemed determined to leave behind the ghost of Britpop.
However leaving Blur seemed to energise the songwriter, who almost immediately began to veer back into poppier territory. Graham Coxon released two albums of scratchy new wave pop, and scored a semi-hit with ‘Spectacular’.
The guitarist recently shocked fans by unveiling another career direction – a wyrd folk artist. Inspired by British guitar heroes from the 60s and 70s Graham Coxon sat down to write an ambitious concept album.
‘The Spinning Top’ is one of the most unique releases Graham Coxon has ever put his name to. Released on Transgressive Records the album scored rave reviews, and will now be played in full on a new British tour.
Graham Coxon is set to play a number of dates with a new group. Recruiting the people who played on ‘The Spinning Top’ the guitarist has also unveiled a host of guests for ‘The Graham Coxon Power Acoustic Ensemble’.
Across the special dates Graham Coxon will be joined by Robyn Hitchcock, Martin Carthy, Natasha Marsh and Max Eastley plus many more. At the Barbican show in London visuals will be provided by Chris Hopewell, a renowned artist who has worked on previous videos for Graham Coxon.
Graham Coxon has confirmed the following tour dates:
November
11 Manchester Royal Academy Of Music
12 Edinburgh Queens Hall
28 London Barbican Hall
