Cartoon pop phenomenon Gorillaz are due to play two nights in London’s Roundhouse venue later this year.
Formed by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, Gorillaz were a multi-media pop explosion. Scoring hit singles and releasing hugely respected albums, the band’s attempts to perform live posed a problem.
Using specially filmed animations, any live performance by Gorillaz was a vast undertaking. With their penchant for collaborations, the cartoon group have been forced in the past to use banks of technology.
Releasing their new album ‘Plastic Beach’ earlier this year, Gorillaz were showered with praise. Undoubtedly the only album in history to feature both Bobby Womack and Mark E Smith, the record cracked the Top Ten.
Now Gorillaz have confirmed plans to play their first London shows since 2001. In a recent interview the band mused on the importance the city plays in their music, making the homecoming even more special.
Their first London shows in some nine years, Gorillaz are due to treat the boards in Camden following the release of their new album.
Taking place on April 29th and 30th the shows at London’s Roundhouse venues are set to feature a host of surprises. Live, Albarn will be joined by a vast cast including (deep breath) Bashy, De La Soul, Mick Jones, Kano, Little Dragon, Mos Def, National Orchestra for Arabic Music, Gruff Rhys, Shaun Ryder, Paul Simonon and Bobby Womack.
Featuring vast projects and songs from all three Gorillaz albums the forthcoming shows are bound to be something quite special. Tickets are available from 9am this Friday (March 25th).
