Cartoon pop collective Gorillaz have confirmed details of their first ever UK arena tour.
Gorillaz are one of the country’s biggest, yet most enigmatic pop sensations. The cartoon outfit were formed by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, yet rarely tour despite their massive sales and huge chart success.
Recently returning with their album ‘Plastic Beach’ the group have decided to hit the road. Gorillaz have been joined by members of The Clash, Bobby Womack, De La Soul and more at a series of dates.
Headlining Coachella, the group then travelled to Britain for two extremely special dates at the Roundhouse. Selling out within minutes, the shows combined special guest stars with stunning back drops courtesy of Jamie Hewlett.
Now Gorillaz have announced a series of arena tour dates. ‘Escape To Pleasure Beach’ will feature material from all three of the group’s albums, with Mick Jones and Paul Simonon reprising their roles.
In addition to the music Jamie Hewlett has crafted a series of artwork and animations to be shown alongside the live show. Meanwhile, fans can expect an array of guest stars with recent shows containing appearances from Mos Def, Kano, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and more.
Opening in Birmingham on September 10th, the tour dates will move across the country finishing with a double header at London’s O2 Arena. Tickets for the tour go on sale from 9am on Friday May 21st.
