Homecoming Scottish rascals Glasvegas played a stripped down show in a Glasgow vintage clothes shop last night (September 1st).
Glasvegas are, unsurprisingly, a product of their hometown. From their use of their local accent, to the appropriation of second hand American pop culture the group seem steeped in a very Glasgow based identity.
The group returned home last night (September 1st) to play a secret show. Announced via Twitter, Glasvegas kept the location of the show a secret until the last minute only confirming the gig a few hours before stage time.
Speaking on the internet site Glasvegas said “the gigs in glasgow tomorrow night” before confirming that “the shows not in a music venue…..”
The band then played a set in the city’s We Love To Boogie shop. Based in the West End the cult clothing boutique is a bit of a landmark, despite being able to hold a mere fifty people – if they all breathed in.
When Glasvegas revealed the location of the venue fans rushed to the store, with more than 500 people attempting to squeeze in. Queues of disappointed fans littered the street outside the store, while others attempted to clamber in through windows.
Emerging at 9pm the group played a stripped down set. Singer James Allan was accompanied by his guitarist brother Rab as they ran through tracks from their Mercury nominated debut album.
Previously, a Twitter update had let fans know that drummer Caroline is unwell – “rehearsed today….. we looked like a bunch of hobos…..too much booze. Carolines got a sore back thought wed have to get a replacement in”.
Glasvegas played:
‘Geraldine’
‘S.A.D Light’
‘It’s My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry’
‘Flowers And Football Tops’
‘Daddy’s Gone’
‘Be My Baby’
