Glasvegas have been forced to end their V Festival early after being bottled by the crowd.
Glasvegas have always had an antagonistic side. The Scottish group like to maintain an edge, an aura of menace which often translates to blanking the crowd. However this tactic appears to have backfired at this year’s V Festival.
The band were performing at Hylands Park in Chelmsford when the crowd began throwing bottles onstage. Glasvegas reportedly rowed with an audience member, after frontman James Allen walked to the front of the stage.
The hail of bottles briefly halted the set, before the band attempted to re-start. Seeing this as a signal, the crowd again began pelting Glasvegas with objects before the Scottish group simply pulled the plug on the show.
Lasting a mere four songs, the show at the Arena Stage was surrounded with confusion. Many in the audience could not see the trigger for the incident, and the departure left some in the crowd feeling let down.
Acknowledging this, Glasvegas issued a statement which cited safety concerns for their early departure. Insisting that they “always give the crowd 100%” the band said it was “an honour” to appear “in front of any crowd”.

It’s an honour for Glasvegas to play in front of any crowd. They performed at Pukkelpop before the storm blew in and we were reminded first hand how important safety of a crowd and band are. The kids that come along to the festivals are pasisonate about their music – they’ve saved and sacrificed for months to pay for tickets and want to have an amazing weekend.
The line up of the Arena Stage is very different from ‘rock n’roll’, but it really doesn’t what matter what genre. Glasvegas respect this and will always give the crowd 100%. All we want is for everyone, including the band, to have a good time and go home safely.
