The much-troubled Glastonbury festival was acclaimed as a huge success last night, after the event passed without a hitch.
After poor ticket sales and controversy over the choice of Jay-Z as a headline act, Glastonbury had it all prove – and did, in spectacular style. A weekend of fun, frolics and very little rain has done much to restore the reputation of the legendary festival. Amongst the many highlights of the weekend were stunning sets from Hot Chip, Leonard Cohen and – suprisingly to some – Jay-Z.
The festival wasn’t without its moments of controversy, however, as Amy Winehouse appeared to lash out at a fan during a performance of “Rehab”. The singer didn’t let the incident spoil her set, however, and gave a crowd-pleasing performance that contained many of her biggest hits.
The Verve’s singer Richard Ashcroft chose the group’s main stage performance to take a swipe at Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis. Ashcroft stated that “I want to thank Emily Eavis for inviting us to play Glastonbury, and I hope her dad realises why she booked us now.”
