This year’s Glastonbury is already breaking records despite being only a few hours old.
The elder statesman of British festivals, Glastonbury came under ferocious criticism last year. After continual bad weather, a confusing ticket policy and diverting from its usual booking policy (stand up Jay-Z!) the event found itself struggling to sell out.
In a recent interview founder Michael Eavis revealed that the event was facing bankruptcy, and only sold out after the gates of the site were opened. This year, however, Glastonbury has had nothing but good news.
A new and improved ticket policy saw fans flock back to the event, with Glastonbury selling out months before the event revealed its line up. When organisers finally released the schedule fans could hardly believe their eyes with Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Blur all due to perform.
Blur discussed their Glastonbury return in a recent interview. The band reformed at the end of last year and claim that it is “right” they play the legendary Somerset event as part of their comeback.
The main stages of the Worthy Farm event do not open until tomorrow (June 26th) but in a statement organisers claimed that 90,936 fans had already arrived. An increase of 30 percent on last year, this is a new record for Glastonbury.
Our intrepid reporters are already on the site. Thanks to the wonders of technology ClashMusic can offer you instant updates on this year’s Glastonbury via our Twitter account. Capturing the personality of the event, one reporter had this to say:
“Clash arrives, tent up and beer cracked… And the rain starts predictably early to huge cheers… Bring this shit right on!!”
