Glasto Scoops Gongs

Festival Cleans up

Glastonbury has emerged as the big winner at the UK Festival Awards this year, scooping a phenomenal three gongs.

The festival endured much criticism this year, with pundits focussing on perceived weaknesses in the line up. Tickets were also slow to sell out, with many music fans upset by an overly complicated application procedure.

However, in the end the event was a massive success, The headline slot by Jay-Z picked up ‘Best Festival Moment’ in light of his Oasis mocking ‘Wonderwall’ mash up. The event also won ‘Best Major Festival’ while organizer Michael Eavis scooped the special ‘Outstanding Contribution’ prize.

Other winners at the ceremony included The Ting Tings, who won three prizes. The Salford duo walked away with ‘Best Live Newcomer’, ‘Best Festival Pop Act’ and ‘Anthem Of The Summer’ for the irritatingly catchy ‘That’s Not My Name’.

Other winners included The Lovebox Weekender with ‘Best Medium Sized Festival’ while Ireland’s Oxegen event won ‘Best European Festival’.
