Glastonbury is to change its booking policy in the future, with Michael Eavis stating that they won’t be booking any controversial acts – such as Jay-Z – for next year’s festival.
This year’s Glastonbury was dogged by controversy, with ticket sales low and the lineup facing criticism from Noel Gallagher, amongst others. The Oasis man felt that inclusion of Jay-Z as Saturday night’s main stage headliner was a dilution of what Glastonbury stood for.
Whilst not endorsing this view, Michael Eavis has indicated that next year’s lineup will not contain any controversial acts. In an interview with BBC News, Eavis stated that “We’ll probably be going for the more traditional headliner next year… because there are more of them around and after this year everyone wants to come on board because it was such a good do.”
However, Eavis also claimed that the stress of putting on this year’s event got to him – with the festival icon losing half a stone in weight at one point.
This year’s Glastonbury was a success on the whole, with acts such as Kings Of Leon, Hot Chip and even Jay-Z playing storming sets. A pre-eminent fixture on the British festival calendar, Glastonbury is set to stay.
