Easy going dance festival Glade is set to take legal advice after a group of German nudists announced their intention to attend the event.
Glade began life as the dance stage at Glastonbury, a reclusive, outlaw elements amid a vast gathering of reclusive, outlaw elements. Granted it independence a decade ago Glade has grown into one of the UK’s most inventive and eagerly awaited festivals.
However this year organisers have got their knickers in a twist – over nudists. Festival Director Nick Ladd explains “‘I think it all started two years ago when we had a guy from San Francisco stark naked and painted purple from head to toe cavorting round the festival all weekend. At one point he was picked up by security, but we had him released as he was actually quite entertaining and a really nice bloke.”
Now a legend with Glade revellers, it seems the man’s popularity has spread to Germany where rumours have circulated that the event is friendly towards nudists.
“We are not too sure what to do to be honest” said Ladd. “I asked them if they would be prepared to wear fig leaves or something and even explained that it can get chilly in England in the summer, and that maybe, at least the guys amongst them might be happy to cover up their shortcomings, but they said it was out of the question as it would compromise their right to party naked. I told them they could probably get away with it provided they all paint themselves different colours and don’t hassle anybody.”
No matter who wins in this epic battle, this year’s Glade is set to be one of the best to date. Using a new site organisers have formed a stunning bill that includes dance legends Underworld playing alongside a vast range of producers and DJs.
Glade takes place between July 16th – 19th.
