Brighton’s massive music showcase event The Great Escape has expanded its line up yet again with post punk pioneers Gang Of Four set to play a very special set.
The Great Escape is one of the first festivals of the season, and can make or break a band’s career. A storming set by The View on the south coast saw the band snapped up by 1965 Records and swiftly launched themselves into the charts.
Set across dozens of venues in Brighton, The Great Escape is sort of like SXSW with more rain and chalk cliffs. Just a train ride away from London, virtually the entire British music industry descends on the city to discover new groups and enjoy sets from established acts.
This year’s headliners are Kasabian, who are due to release their third album ‘West Rider Pauper Asylum’ soon. Joining the Leicester indie giants on the bill are ‘Man Of Aran’ soundtrack merchants British Sea Power and electro starlet Little Boots.
In total, The Great Escape uses 34 venues across Brighton and features over 300 acts. Among the bands recently confirmed for slots at the event are Scottish indie heroes Idlewild and The Rumble Strips – watch an exclusive acoustic performance by the band HERE!
New additions to the line up include Gang Of Four. Formed in Leeds, the legendary group were equally inspired by sociological theory, New York punk and Chic. Pioneering the punk-funk sound the band were hugely influential and remain a powerful live act.
The reformed giants will perform alongside other new additions The Charlatans. The baggy survivors released their new album ‘Oh! Vanity’ last year, and have been picked to curate an entire day’s worth of entertainment at this summer’s Isle Of Wight festival.
The Great Escape is set to take place between May 14th – 16th.
