Returning hardcore icons Gallows are set to unveil their new album ‘Grey Britain’ with a special set in London’s Rough Trade music store.
Rough Trade was opened after founder Geoff Travis took off on a Beat Generation inspired journey across the United States. Picking up vinyl along the way he soon found that he had too much to listen to in a lifetime, so began shipping them back to Britain.
Opening Rough Trade in London, Travis’s store soon became a mecca for the emerging punk scene. Stocking fanzines and cheaply pressed seven inches the store suddenly became intricately associated with the idea of music being produced on an independent basis.
Rough Trade soon became a label, as well as crafting an extensive distribution network across the nation. With independent shops on the decline, Rough Trade has thrived through its selective stock policy and knowledgeable staff.
Of course, it also helps if you can persuade some kick ass groups to pop in for a quick set or two. In the past Rough Trade has hosted astonishing sets from the likes of
