Canada’s mind expanding hardcore troupe Fucked Up have confirmed details of a very special Brooklyn show.
Hardcore is back. Reducing punk to its most brutal and effective elements, groups such as Black Flag and Minor Threat set about crafting a much imitated template.
However in the intervening years few bands have dared to alter the hallowed bedrock of ‘Nervous Breakdown’ and ‘In My Eyes’. In Britain, groups such as Gallows are pushing hardcore to its limits, while in Canada Fucked Up sound like Black Flag flying into outer space.
Mixing Bad Brains with Hawkwind Fucked Up specialise in taking punk riffs and pounding them until they break into sparkling new pieces. A series of limited edition singles stunned the punk underground, while the group’s live shows are the stuff of legend.
Signing to Matador Records Fucked Up released their debut album last year. ‘The Chemistry of Common Life’ was acclaimed by critics and broke the band beyond punk circles, with its mind-expanding rock music and singer Pink Eyes guttural scream.
The band are set to re-visit the album with a special show in Brooklyn. Fucked Up will play the Masonic Temple on November 5th to play ‘The Chemistry Of Common Life’ in its entirety.
Fucked Up are set to be joined by Andrew WK and The Vivian Girls to help re-create the album, with support coming from Titus Andronicus and Katie Stelmanis. Tickets for the show went on sale today (September 11th).
Meanwhile, Matador have also announced details of a new singles compilation which is slated for a 2010. Called ‘Couple Tracks: Singles 2001 – 2009’, the collection will be released as both a double LP and double CD, and is set to contain some rare tracks from the early period of the band’s career.
