Foo Fighters played an epic 26 song set on Sunday night (August 26th) to close Reading festival.
By now, Foo Fighters have proved their status as one of the biggest rock bands on the planet. Headlining Leeds festival earlier in the week, Sunday night (August 26th) saw the band set their sights on Reading.
Clearly opening with a point to prove, the band played a set which varied wildly from their Leeds performance. Containing 26 songs, Foo Fighters ran the gamut through their 15 year back catalogue.
“Well, well, well. The fucking Reading festival” Dave Grohl told the crowd.”You guys realise we’ve got a lot of songs to play. It’s the last show of the tour and it’s the last show for a long time.”
Performing ‘These Days’ the band took a reflective turn. Dedicating the song to his former Nirvana band mates, Dave Grohl said: “I’d like to dedicate this song to a couple of people who couldn’t be here tonight. This one’s for Krist and this one’s for Kurt.”
Coming 20 years after Nirvana’s celebrated headline performance at Reading, Dave Grohl chose to acknowledge the landmark in an oblique fashion. Toasting his mother’s birthday, the frontman asked the crowd to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ for her.
“In 1992 when Nirvana played here, the last show we ever played in England, you sang happy birthday to my mom. Here’s your chance.”
Ending – as ever – with ‘Everlong’ the set finished with an enormous fireworks display courtesy of the Reading team.
