Field Day have confirmed the first names on the line up for next summer’s instalment.
Formed by a collective of independent promoters, Field Day is rapidly growing into one of London’s most prominent one day festivals. After a hugely successful 2011, the event is now looking ahead to next summer.
Preparations are already under way, with Field Day announcing the first names on the line up for 2012. Glaswegian group Franz Ferdinand are set to close the Eat Your Own Ears stage, with work well under way on their fourth album.
The hugely successful Scottish band helped push the post-punk revival into the charts, managing to match a commercial impact with artistic nous.
Working hard on new material, Franz Ferdinand will escape the recording studio to perform at Field Day. Amongst the first names on the bill, the band are set to be joined by Metronomy, Jeffrey Lewis, SBTRKT and more.
Typically eclectic, Field Day will boast a live set from Hudson Mohawke, while Gold Panda is also due to appear.
Post-rock group Tortoise will make a rare appearance on British soil, with the band’s forward thinking approach one of the stand out moments on the first instalment of the bill.
Promoter Tom Baker of Eat Your Own Ears says: “I’m really excited about the line-up for Field Day 2012. It’s been something of a challenge after last year’s was so strong but with Franz Ferdinand closing the Eat Your Own Ears stage and with acts like Tortoise playing I’m hoping it will be just as good. As ever it’s hugely exciting to welcome acts from further afield; I’m particularly delighted to announce Afrocubism featuring Toumani and some incredible Cuban musicians – they’re going to blow people’s minds!”
Let’s leave the final word to Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand fame… “I’m looking forward to Field Day this coming summer. I’ve been the last couple of years and the line-up’s always been excellent. Electrelane playing Small Town Boy and Martin Creed’s set were last year’s highlights for me. This year’s line-up is already shaping up well with Metronomy and R Stevie Moore on the bill. Being in walking distance of a good pub at the end of the night works well for me too…”
