Reformed metal giants Faith No More are set to play this summer’s massive Danish festival Roskilde.
Faith No More formed in California in the early 80s. For years, the band languished in obscurity before guitarist Jim Martin joined, seeming to inspire them to greater work. Signing to Slash Records, the band released the Grammy nominated album ‘The Real Thing’ in 1989.
However internal friction had always threatened to tear the band apart. Jim Martin’s guitar work was a hallmark of the group’s sound, but in 1993 the musician stunned fans by walking out on Faith No More.
However the group stumbled on, managing to record 1995’s well received album ‘King For A Day… Fool For A Lifetime’. Faith No More eventually split up in 1998, issuing a statement to fans claiming “the decision among the members is mutual, and there will be no pointing of fingers, no naming of names, other than stating, for the record, that “Puffy started it”.”
Since then lead singer Mike Patton has forged a solo career under a huge variety of pseudonyms, but Faith No More surprised fans by announcing their re-union earlier this year. Sadly without Jim Martin, the band confirmed a number of dates over the summer, with that schedule now including Denmark’s Roskilde.
One of the biggest music events in Europe, the Danish event has already bagged a host of star names. Coldplay will play a rare festival date, alongside fellow British stadium rockers Oasis. Soon to go on hiatus industrial legends Nine Inch Nails are also due to play the event alongside Slipknot, Kanye West and Nick Cave – variety is the spice of life in Denmark.
Roskilde festival takes place between July 2nd – 5th.
