This summer’s Great Escape festival has grabbed a bona fide musical legend with former Lemonheads singer Evan Dando due to perform at the event.
Taking place in Brighton over three days, The Great Escape is one of the biggest showcase events in Britain. Figures from throughout the music industry gather to put up and coming bands through their paces, with reputations being made and dismantled with just one set.
Growing larger every year, The Great Escape has managed to capture some stellar names. This year’s headliners include Kasabian, who will preview their long awaited new album ‘West Rider Pauper Asylum’.
As the lead singer with The Lemonheads Evan Dando became the pin up boy of the grunge era. 1992’s ‘It’s A Shame About Ray’ broke the band internationally, showing their blend of crunching guitars mixed with 60s bubblegum pop.
However Dando struggled to cope with success and sank into a heroin addiction. Now clean, the singer is still making great music and his addition is a coup for the festival. Other new additions include London folkster Emmy The Great, who released her debut album earlier this year, amongst others.
Scottish indie wonders The Twilight Sad are due to perform, and will showcase tracks from their as yet un-titled second album. The band are a truly special live act, capable of reducing the most cynical indie hipster to tears with their heartfelt songcraft.
Other new additions to the Great Escape line up include Johnny Flynn, Bombay Bicycle Club and Post War Years.
The Great Escape is due to take place between May 14th – 16th.
