Eurosonic Noorderslag Expands

Dutch showcase grabs new acts

One of Europe’s biggest music showcase events Eurosonic Noorderslag has just expanded its line up.

With the music industry facing the double pronged attack of illegal file sharing and the effects of the credit crunch, it is harder than ever for new talent to get noticed. Few record companies can afford to take a chance on an unknown act, giving rise to a series of massive showcase events across Europe.

Amongst the biggest of these is Eurosonic Noorderslag. Held in the Netherlands the event is an annual showcase of new musical talent, bringing together some of the most important people in the music industry.

Taking place over the course of three days more than two hundred acts will strut their stuff along the streets of Groningen. Like SXSW but a hell of a lot more relaxed, Eurosonic has just unveiled more acts for its bill.

Opening on January 14th, Eurosonic have grabbed a healthy selection of emerging British talent. Alt country types The Chapman Family are due to make the short journey, and will be joined by some talented individuals.

With their new album due for release in 2010 Los Campesinos! have a lot to shout about, and the Welsh wonders are set to perform at Eurosonic. Joining the twee pop collective at the three day bash are the likes of Everything Everything and Ireland’s rising talent Imelda May.

Of course, musicians from all over the world gather for Eurosonic Noorderslag, with French electro starlets Pony Pony Run Run set to perform alongside hundreds of other potential greats.

Eurosonic Noorderslag is set to take place between January 14th – 16th.
