One of rock's most iconic guitarists, Eric Clapton is capable of commanding enormous audiences across the globe.
Whether he actually wants to, though, is open to conjecture. Speaking to Uncut this month, Eric Clapton admitted that life on the road doesn't hold the attraction it once did for the the guitarist.
Turning 70 next year, Clapton added that touring can be a gruelling, somewhat exhausting process. The guitarist stated that he felt each country had now become "a different version of America" before adding: "The road has become unbearable. It's become unapproachable, because it takes so long to get anywhere. It's hostile – everywhere: getting in and out of airports, travelling on planes and in cars."
Refusing to make a final decision, the guitarist is currently re-assessing his options. "There are tons of things I'd like to do, but I'm looking at retirement too," he said. "What I'll allow myself to do, within reason, is carry on recording in the studio. I don't want to go off the boil to the point where I'm embarrassing myself."
Asked if he felt like giving up the guitar, Eric Clapton said: "Maybe. It might be that I can't, if it hurts too much. I have odd ailments."
