Returning rapper Eminem is set to headline the New Orleans Voodoo Experience event, alongside Flaming Lips and Jane’s Addiction.
Eminem returned earlier this year, after a silence lasting some five years. Following the death of his close friend Proof the rapper fell into a deep depression, turning to anti-depressants and alcohol in order to make it through.
In a recent interview the icon revealed the depths of his despair. After months surviving on a cocktail of drugs Eminem entered rehab, under going treatment for his addictions. Having time to think the rapper wrote his autobiography last year.
The hip hop star’s burst of creativity continued into the recording studio. Eminem hooked up with long time producer Dr Dre to work on a series of tracks, with sessions so successful there are rumours of another album lying in the crates.
Releasing ‘Relapse’ earlier this year, Eminem took the charts by storm. A transatlantic number one, the album was a stunning success. Lead single ‘We Made You’ took a swipe at celebrities, with Eminem making his grand return at the MTV Movie Awards.
Apart from this, a handful of television appearances and an album launch show in Detroit Eminem has rarely played any live dates since his return. Now the rapper is set to headline the Voodoo Experience festival in New Orleans.
Taking place over the Halloween weekend, the event brings some of the biggest acts around to the legendary musical city. New Orleans is still struggling after the effects of Hurricane Katrina, but hopefully events like this will put the city back on an even keel.
Also on the bill for this year’s event are Jane’s Addiction. The band are famous for their debauched lifestyle, with Halloween effectively being more opportunity for Perry Farrell & Co. to party.
Joining the fun are Oklahoma oddballs The Flaming Lips, with 70s rockers Kiss also set to stop by. Australian rockers Wolfmother are due to perform, with the afro-clad stars being joined by Justice, Ween, The Black Keys and many more.
Featuring three performances areas and eight stages, Voodoo Experience blends sensational musical talent with a slice of the Big Easy.
Voodoo Experience takes place in New Orleans between October 30th – November 1st.
