Mercury award winning Bury group Elbow are due to relay their forthcoming performance with the Halle Orchestra on a giant screen.
Elbow’s career now sits into two neat compartments. The era of public neglect ended the minute the envelope was opened at the Mercury Music Prize last year, propelling the band into the mainstream.
The group’s album ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’ was an emotionally gripping display of mature songwriting. Gaining rave reviews, the album has become Elbow’s most successful to date and has arguably changed how the band are perceived forever.
Since winning the award Elbow have toured ceaselessly. With Guy Garvey’s swooping voice and a vast sound the group have conquered the live circuit, playing to ever larger crowds.
Earlier this year Elbow performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra live in the Abbey Road studios. With an audience of only 100 present, footage from the show was broadcast on the BBC capturing the band’s intense devotion to live performance.
Seemingly gaining an appetite for orchestral manoeuvres, Elbow recently announced plans to work with another ensemble. The Halle orchestra will accompany the band at an upcoming concert in Manchester.
With tickets long since sold out the band have taken the unprecedented step of preparing a relay of live footage from the event. Broadcast in Castlefield Arena, the show will be first come, first served from 6pm.
There will be no advanced tickets available for the show, so ClashMusic’s advice is to get their early.
Forming part of the Manchester International Festival, the new performance could be an indication of where Elbow will go with their next album. Already the band have retreated to the Scottish island of Mull to work on new material, which is as-yet unheard.
The band are due to present entirely re-constructed versions of their music alongside the orchestra.
Elbow are set to play alongside the Halle orchestra on July 9th.
