Gloomy British rockers Editors were left shocked after police halted their show on Wednesday (March 23rd).
Editors aren’t known for being the most rock ‘n’ roll of groups. Singer Tom Smith took time off music after his wife gave birth to their first child, focussing on his family just when the band looked to be entering the mainstream.
Using his spare time to dream up a new direction, Editors returned earlier this year with an album deeply influenced by electronic music.
Released to warm reviews, ‘In This Light And On This Evening’ was a triumph of home parenting. Setting off on a celebratory tour of the UK, Editors were stopped in their tracks recently.
Playing a gig in Folkestone recently, Editors were forced to leave the stage after police were called to the venue. Apparently three quarters of the way through their set, the band were told to stop after a fracas broke out in the crowd.
Playing the Leas Cliff Hall venue, Editors were on typically fine form when the fight broke out. A spokesperson for Kent Police told NME that two audience members were questioned by police after reports of fighting at the show.
No one was arrested, and Editors were allowed to come back onstage and finish the show. Editors official forum reports that some fans have voiced their opinion that security was extremely lax at the venue.
Editors have declined to comment on the incident. The band continued their British tour with a show at London’s O2 Academy Brixton last night (March 24th).
