Doves In Free Manchester Show

Band to unveil new Man City top

Manchester group Doves have been added to a star studded bill at a free show in their home town.

Doves are intricately linked with Manchester. The band formed after an inspiring session at the Hacienda, initially making dance music under the name Sub Sub. Scoring a number of hits, the band eventually turned away from electronic music.

Forming Doves, the band embraced Northern melancholy. Scoring a cult audience, the group’s 2002 album ‘The Last Broadcast’ thrust Doves into a world of arena tours and chart hits, becoming one of the biggest indie groups in the nation.

Returning earlier this year with their sterling new album ‘Kingdom Of Rust’ Doves remain a force to be reckoned with. The band blend soaring guitar lines with Jimi Goodwin’s emotive voice, and overcame a bout of writer’s block to produce their first album in nearly four years.

Doves have been confirmed for an exciting new concert in the City Of Manchester stadium. The band will play for 2,500 ticket holders and their best friend, with tickets only available to those who purchase the new Manchester City home kit.

Lifelong football fans, Doves were honoured to be asked to participate in the event. Singer Jimi Goodwin said in a statement “it is a great honour to be asked to headline this event. I’ve been a City supporter all my life, so playing to a crowd of 5,000 people with the City of Manchester Stadium in the background is going to be an amazing experience.”

Also due to perform is Mike Pickering, the DJ whose ‘Nude’ nights in the Hacienda helped launch the club. A major figure in the story of both the club and Factory Records, Pickering is also a life long Manchester City supporter.

Joining the bill are Twisted Wheel, who recently supported Oasis at their Heaton Park shows. Hotly tipped act Kid British is also scheduled to play, with indie newcomers The Answering Machine due to perform at the event.

In addition to this a host of young musical talent from from Manchester City’s Kickz programme are due to perform, with the famous MCFC Big Band also set to drop by.

David Pullan from Manchester City told fans in a statement “Manchester has a rich heritage of music acts and so many of these are Manchester City supporters. This is an event to celebrate the launch of the new home kit whilst tapping into Manchester’s eclectic culture and putting on a free event to give back to those fans that first purchase the shirt.”

With Manchester City set to invest heavily over the summer, there has never been a better time to support the Blues.

Doves are due to play the following UK date:
