London’s hottest party the Lovebox Weekender has expanded yet again with returning Manchester indie giants Doves unveiled as headliners.
Lovebox began as the brainchild of Groove Armada, and has grown to become one of the biggest dance events in London. Stretching over two days in the historic Victoria Park, this year promises to be extra special with the addition to Doves.
Beginning as one hit wonder dance act Sub Sub, Doves re-invented themselves as indie royalty. Silent for four years, new album ‘Kingdom Of Rust’ went straight into the charts at number two last week – beaten only by the peculiar phenomenon known as Lady Gaga.
The band can console themselves with a performance at Lovebox, and will be joined by the likes of Noah And The Whale and headliners Duran Duran. One of the truly seismic acts to emerge from British music in the 80s, Duran Duran’s slick pop proved to be a global success story.
Now reformed, the band will play a no doubt sensational slot at the festival. As the ever genial hosts, it would be remiss if Groove Armada failed to play a set and the dance group will be joined by hip hop icons N*E*R*D*.
Further down the bill electrifying punk funk outfit Gang Of Four are set to perform. One of the most influential acts of their generation the band’s debut album ‘Entertainment!’ has been been acclaimed by the likes of Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand and even Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The bill is completed by some sensational party acts, with New Zealand reggae / hip hop act Fat Freddy’s Drop set to drop a funk bomb on Victoria Park.
As ever, Clash is delighted to be involved with Lovebox. We’ll be hosting a stage at the event, with more details still to be announced!
Lovebox Weekender takes place between July 18th – 19th.
