American grunge pioneers Dinosaur Jr have confirmed plans for a lengthy tour of the UK and Ireland.
Melting ear drums. Savage riffs. Plenty of blood, sweat and hair. The Dinosaur Jr live experience remains one of the most thrilling experiences in the rock arena.
Inspired by hardcore and some decidedly un-punk influences, the band’s initial incarnation recorded three stunning albums which laid down the template for grunge. Hugely influential, the original trio splintered soon after.
Reforming in 2005 for the acclaimed ‘Beyond’ album, the reformed Dinosaur Jr remain a sensational live act. Releasing their new album ‘Farm’ at the rail end of last year, the band proved capable of out rocking group’s half their age.
Taking their proto-grunge sound into the 21st century, Dinosaur Jr have now confirmed a series of tour dates across Britain and Ireland. Opening in Oxford on May 8th, the band will perform at venues across the country.
The shows represent one of the band’s most exhaustive British tours yet, with the evergreen grunge act hitting the provinces.
Support acts include Built To Spill, although on a recent American jaunt bass player Lou Barlow performed a solo set. The former Sebadoh star enjoyed a famously truculent relationship with singer J Mascis during the band’s initial run, but seems to have lain these demons to rest.
Dinosaur Jr will play the following shows:
