Devo Cancel American Tour

After guitarist cuts hand

Devo have been forced to cancel an upcoming North American tour after their guitarist injured his hand.

A truly unique group, Devo returned earlier this year. Updating their image, the band’s famous energy domes changed colour as the release of their first album in over two decades approached.

Completing a batch of songs, Devo then asked fans to vote for which ones should be included on the record. Democracy in action, the new album was compiled and released over the summer.

Released to widespread acclaim, the return of Devo delighted fans. Arranging a rare tour, the rock surrealists preparing to set off for a New York show on Saturday (October 30th).

However an accident at home to guitarist Ben Mothersbaugh has taken the band off the road. The musician injured himself at home, and despite immediate hospital attention is not able to complete the dates.

“A glass shard sliced Mothersbaugh’s right thumb to the bone, severing a tendon,” the band explained in a statement.

“He underwent immediate emergency surgery and is expected to make a full recovery after proper care and therapy.”

The tour has now been postponed, with the dates set to be re-arranged shortly. Due to open in New York, Devo were also set to play shows in Austin, Los Angeles and more before finishing in San Francisco.

The dates are now set to be re-scheduled for Spring 2011.

Devo are due to perform at Moogfest in Ashville on Friday (October 29th) and are looking at ideas of how to complete the show. According to ConsequenceofSound, the band are looking at “performance ideas, including a possible collaboration with another band/artist”. But who could it be? Stay tuned.
