Dead Weather Play London Show

Packed crowd featured Horrors, Beastie Boys

American supergroup The Dead Weather have played a surprise London show, with the audience including the likes of The Horrors and hip hop dons Beastie Boys.

The era of the supergroup has returned. More than four decades after the likes of Cream, Big Brother and the Holding Band, Traffic and more bit the dust Jack White has resurrected the concept with his much talked about new band.

The Dead Weather contain members of Queens Of The Stone Age, The Greenhornes and The Kills, with the band making a sensational debut earlier this year in Nashville. Wherever the band play the audience is studded with high profile musicians, and a recent London show was no exception.

The group landed in the UK earlier this week, playing a short set for Nigel Godrich’s webcast ‘From The Basement’. The Dead Weather were on sensational form, playing three tracks from their forthcoming debut album alongside one cover.

Possibly the most talked about new group on the planet, Clash has grabbed an exclusive interview with Jack White & Co. Watch out for the lengthy chat appearing in Issue 40!

Before then, however, The Dead Weather have a UK tour to complete. The band stunned fans by playing a last minute show at the Boston Arms in North London – which Jack White previously played with seminal Detroit two piece The White Stripes.

Amongst the crowd were members of Beastie Boys, The Horrors, Carl Barat as well as comedians Julian Barratt and Kimberley Stewart.

As usual, Jack White sat behind the drum stool for almost the duration of the show. At a recent Los Angeles gig White only emerged from the drums to sing a duet with Alison Mosshart, while at the London gig the Detroit musician strapped on his electric guitar for one song towards the end of the show.

Lasting for 45 minutes the band’s set drew on their forthcoming debut album ‘Horehound’. Produced by Jack White, the album is set to be released through his Third Man Records imprint.

The Dead Weather will follow this with a show in London’s HMV Forum tonight. For a full break down of the band’s UK tour just click HERE!

The Dead Weather are set to release their debut album ‘Horehound’ on July 13th.
