Much talked about supergroup The Dead Weather have confirmed that they are to perform at this year’s Glastonbury festival.
This year’s Glastonbury festival is shaping up to be a golden year. After the controversy of last summer’s event, organisers have taken criticism on the chin and returned with one of Worthy Farm’s finest ever bills.
Vowing to remain more conservative in their line up choices, Glastonbury have confirmed a number of sensational headliners. Bruce Springsteen has never before played a British festival, but The Boss is set to drop by Somerset for a very special performance.
Organiser Emily Eavis was forced to prepare a dossier on the festival for the New Jersey singer, detailing Glastonbury’s musical policy and of course their extensive charity work.
Joining Bruce Springsteen on the bill are Neil Young and reformed Britpop giants Blur. Further down the line up are indie giants such as Franz Ferdinand and Manchester group Doves. However organisers have managed to sneak some hip hop onto the bill, with N.E.R.D. newly confirmed for Glastonbury.
New acts are still being confirmed, with The Dead Weather revealing that they are to perform in an email to fans yesterday (June 25th). Formed by Jack White the group contain members of The Kills, The Greenhornes and Queens Of The Stone Age.
Jack White has previously played a Glastonbury four times. Last year the guitarist took to the stage twice – once with The Raconteurs and once as a special guest of Last Shadow Puppets.
As one half of The White Stripes the guitarist played a sensational show in 2002, before returning for a headline slot in 2005.
The Dead Weather have been playing a number of UK dates recently. The band performed an unusual set for Nigel Godrich’s webcast ‘From The Basement’, playing in a secret bunker with no fans present.
After this the band played a show in an intimate London venue, with The Dead Weather scheduled to play many more dates across the summer. The band are due to release their debut album ‘Horehound’ on July 13th.
The Dead Weather are set to play The Park Stage at Glastonbury on June 26th at 6.45pm.
