Superstar American act The Dead Weather have played their first UK show to date – in a secret London basement.
‘From The Basement’ is a project run by celebrated producer Nigel Godrich. Gathering some sensational talent, Godrich films them playing in a secret location before streaming the footage online.
In the past such star names as Radiohead and Beck have dropped by, with Nigel Godrich recently enticing The Dead Weather to join him for an exclusive session.
Formed by Jack White, the band contain alumni from The Kills, The Greenhornes and Queens Of The Stone Age. Unveiled in Nashville earlier this year the band’s UK arrival was keenly awaited by fans, desperate for a glimpse of the group.
The Dead Weather have confirmed a number of small scale shows across the country, with tickets selling like the veritable hot cakes of yore. However before then the group agreed to play a special set – without anyone present.
Playing a four song set in the studios of Covent Garden’s Hospital the band rattled through songs from their forthcoming album ‘Horehound’.
Kicking off with their recent limited edition single ‘Hang You From The Heavens’ the band then played a number of new tracks. At a recent show Los Angeles a star studded audience watched Jack White and singer Alison Mosshart duet, but on this occasion White remained behind the drum stool.
Never speaking to the camera the group ploughed through the tracks, using only feedback the disguise the gap between songs. Playing the songs ‘Treat Me Like Your Mother’ and ‘Bonehouse’ from their debut album, the band finished with a cover of ‘Forever My Queen’ by Pentagram.
