David Guetta Spanish Backlash

Campaign to have DJ removed from line up

Furious Spanish dance fans are attempting to have David Guetta removed from the line up of Monegros.

Dance music is now split in two. On one side, you have the underground, the true believers who propel new styles away from the clutches of the media machine. On the other, you have a relentless series of superstar DJs.

Once thought to be an endangered breed, the superstar DJ is back with a vengeance. David Guetta is amongst the largest of these strutting cocks, capable of selling millions of records across the planet.

The producer has worked with some of the biggest names around, entertaining countless thousands at each show. However David Guetta’s ubiquitous nature, his commercial style and mainstream acceptance have alienated the producer from many dance fans.

Added to the bill of Spanish event Monegros, the decision has prompted fury from some fans. The one dat event is due to take place later this summer, and had already confirmed an eclectic bill.

Dubstep pioneer Benga is set to appear, while electro house producer Brodinski will also take part. Meanwhile, legends such as Carl Cox will entertain crowds at the respected Spanish event.

So the inclusion of David Guetta has ruffled a few feathers. A Facebook group has been set up by fans demanding that the DJ be removed from the line up with more than 9000 taking part.

Some fans are even proposing direct action, insisting that they should disrupt David Guetta’s set in order to send a message to organisers.

Of course, the whole issue opens up the debate of who really owns a festival – the organisers or the fans.
