Daniel Johnston has confirmed plans for a one off show at London venue the Barbican.
A unique talent, Daniel Johnston began life handing out cassette tapes of his music to strangers in the street. Now feted across the globe (we should add: in certain quarters) the songwriter is ready to return to the UK.
Announcing a one off London show, the date acts as a nice cross section of the Texas based artist's career. Taking place at the Barbican, Daniel Johnston will be fresh from the release of 'Space Ducks' – the soundtrack to the songwriter's first ever published comic book.
The upcoming concert will feature Daniel Johnston performing his classic album 'Hi, How Are You?' – now 30 years old! – before tackling a 'greatest hits' set. As ever, plenty of famous admirers will be on show with the likes of Jeffrey Lewis, Emmy the Great and Teenage Fanclub songwriter Norman Blake due to take part.
Whilst we've got you… the ClashMusic archives contain a rare interview with the reclusive songwriter. Reflecting on his career, comic books and his noted love of the Beatles it's well worth five minutes of your time on a Monday afternoon (or whatever day you happen to be reading this on).
