Damian Marley For Tsunami Benefit

Reggae4Japan, this weekend

Reggae4Japan, the unprecedented reggae benefit in New York for Japanese Tsunami relief, takes place this weekend.

Alongside FREDDIE McGREGOR (plus BIG SHIP), MAXI PRIEST, MR VEGAS, MIGHTY CROWN, FIREBALL, CAPLETON, ETANA, TARRUS RILEY, ALAINE, GRAMPS MORGAN, PETER MORGAN and TANYA STEPHENS will be Junior Gong himself DAMIAN MARLEY.

Marley said: “Japan has always had a great amount of fans support Reggae music and culture throughout the years; it’s only right that we give forward to lend some support to Japan in this much needed time.”

His charitable credentials go deep. Proceeds from his well-received last album ‘Distant Relatives’, which he made with Nas, went to building schools in the Congo.

The strong lineup majors on reggae plus dancehall flavour, in a bill that includes both new and established talent, not to mention the excitement that comes from having a dynasty present – the Big Ship, including Freddie McGregor, Stephen “di Genius” and Chino.

As previously reviewed on Clash, Tanya Stevens and Duane Stephenson were on fine form at the Rotterdam Reggae Festival recently. Fireball are Japan’s premier dancehall/reggae group. The event is organised by top Japanese sound system Mighty Crown, label VP Records, promoters Irish & Chin and radio station Irie Jam. The event was originally scheduled for last April.

It all happens at the 1300 seater York College Theatre in Queens, New York. Proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief.
