Daft Punk Join Phoenix?

Guys in masks appear at MSG

Daft Punk have appear to have joined Phoenix onstage at New York’s Madison Square Gardens.

Rolling back the years…

Way before electro-house and the concept of ‘blogging’ French group Darlin’ were formed by three High School friends. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo were joined by Laurent Brancowitz, eventually releasing their debut single.

A rare live outing in London prompted Melody Maker to slate Darlin’ calling the French group “a load of daft punk”. Splitting soon afterwards, Brancowitz focussed on his own group Phoenix while Bangalter and de Homem-Christo formed Daft Punk.

Fast forward fifteen years, and all three are known across the world. Phoenix have enjoyed huge success in the past 12 months, with their album ‘Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix’ cracking the United States.

Selling out New York’s Madison Square Gardens, the French group had a treat in store for fans. During anthemic single ‘1901’ Phoenix invited Daft Punk onstage, to help them perform the track.

Two figures dressed as Daft Punk then added some synths to the track, receiving a rapturous applause from fans. No word has yet been received on whether it was a hoax or not, but given the intertwined history of the two groups ClashMusic has no reason to doubt the reports.

Meanwhile, the wait continues for Daft Punk’s ‘Tron: Legacy’ soundtrack. A double album of new material, the release date has been pushed back meaning that fans will have to wait that little bit longer.

Daft Punk are due to release ‘Tron: Legacy OST’ on November 22nd.
