Returning indie troupe The Cribs have surprised fans by showcasing their new album with free shows in Reading and Leeds.
Known for their jam-packed touring schedule and somewhat notorious for their wild, unpredictable live shows, The Cribs have managed to build up quite a fanatical following. The band became actively involved in the touring-circuit in 2002 before releasing three studio albums in the span of three year.
Despite rumours to the contrary that the band were set to play secret unannounced gigs at this year’s Reading & Leeds, The Cribs ended speculation giving their own take on the festivals by playing at both cities respective HMV stores over the bank holiday weekend.
The band unveiled a number of new tracks along with a handful of classics at Leeds Headrow and Reading Oracle for the first time publicly, before they took time out to meet fans and sign copies of new single, ‘Cheat On Me’, from their forthcoming fourth album, ‘Ignore The Ignorant’.
The Cribs previously stated that they were tired of playing Reading and Leeds, after having appeared at the event for three years in a row. Marking their movement from cult heroes to mainstream names those appearances have seen the band win fans galore.
Recorded in the United States, ‘Ignore The Ignorant’ is the group’s first album with Johnny Marr. The one time Smiths six stringer appears on The Cribs’ new single ‘Cheat On Me’ and his liquid guitar work propels the band into another level.
As a result, ClashMusic has made ‘Cheat On Me’ our Single Of The Week!
The Cribs are due to release ‘Ignore The Ignorant’ on September 7th.
