Manchester indie group The Courteeners have surprised fans by covering a song by The Smiths with The Last Shadow Puppets’ Miles Kane.
The Courteeners are possibly one of the hardest working bands in British music. Having only just completed touring their first album ‘St. Jude’ the band headed straight back into the recording studio to work on a follow up.
Formed by Liam Fray and some friends from Manchester’s open mic scene, The Courteeners sturdy brand of indie rock speaks clearly of the frustrations of growing old in a dead end job.
Morrissey is a huge fan of the band, and The Courteeners are set to support the indie legend on the North American leg of his world tour. The Courteeners have been equally complimentary about the ‘Years Of Refusal’ singer, penning the song ‘Smiths Disco’.
Playing one final show in Liverpool ahead of their American jaunt, the band played a number of new songs before being joined by Miles Kane.
The indie team up resulted in a version of The Smiths’ classic ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’ which left fans gob-smacked.
Among the new songs The Courteeners played ‘Good Times Are Calling’, ‘Sycophant’ and ‘Tear Me Apart’.
