Coldplay have closed the second day of T In The Park with a fireworks laden set.
With the weather changing on a near minute-to-minute basis, fans risked the rain to watch some high profile acts at T In The Park today (July 9th). Yet the clouds held off, with Beyonce, The Strokes and Coldplay delighting the Balado crowd.
Every inch the pop superstar Beyonce opened her set with ‘Crazy In Love’. Emerging from a pyramid, the sense of show-business ran through every facet of the show including an emotive rendering of the classic ballad ‘At Last’.
Gathering a vast crowd, Beyonce’s appearance will undoubtedly go down as a highlight with the pop icon backed by a slick band. Joined by three dancers, the band played glitzy white instruments with every element of the show seemingly programmed in painstaking detail.
The Strokes returned earlier this year with ‘Angles’, an album which seemed to be born from a painful pregnancy. Yet onstage at T In The Park the New Yorkers appear to be completely relaxed.
Drawing on the recent album, material from ‘Angles’ seems to take on a laid back drawl more reminiscent of their earlier material. Predictably, the biggest cheers are reserved for cuts from ‘Is This It?’ with the band closing on a cool-as-you-like rendition of ‘Take It Or Leave It’.
Forced to follow Beyonce on the Main Stage, Coldplay must have feared for the worst. An enormous crowd gathered at the arena, with a typically humble Chris Martin leading the band onstage.
Seated at the piano, the singer picked out the chords for new track ‘Hurts Like Heaven’ as some spectacular fireworks exploded overhead. Thanking the crowd for coming along, the always polite Martin then strummed the opening chords for ‘Yellow’ as cheers went up across the Balado site.
Reaching into their back catalogue Coldplay then played ‘In My Place’ sparking an epic sing-along from the Scottish crowd.
