One of the most important music showcase events on the planet, CMJ Music Marathon has confirmed the initial line up for this year’s instalment.
Held in venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn, CMJ Music Marathon has grown to become a massive showcase of new and established talent. A bit like the Camden Crawl but even larger, CMJ is capable of making or breaking a band’s career in one performance.
In addition to live events, the CMJ Music Marathon contains numerous showcase events designed to help young people make their way in the music industry. With the economy in meltdown and jobs scarcer than ever, a dose of assistance from the professionals is just what is needed.
Brimming with new talent, Manhattan and Brooklyn could perhaps fill the event themselves such is the flood of new groups emerging from the boroughs. School Of Seven Bells burst out of New York earlier this year with their debut album, all shuffling 60s beats and sighing vocals.
In thrall to the shoegazing scene yet with their own unique voice, the band are set to play a no doubt stunning slot at this year’s CMJ. Also set to play are Australian newcomers The Temper Trap, whose soaring voice and epic songs mark them out as potential replacements for Irish rockers U2.
Mum are set to perform, fresh from the release of their new album. The Scandinavians are set to be joined by the likes of Crystal Antlers, demented punk types Pissed Jeans, afro-beat experiment The Very Best and much more.
Hundreds of artists have yet to be confirmed for the event, with many more stellar performers to be unveiled before the event kicks off.
CMJ Music Marathon is due to take place between October 20th – 24th.
