Charlie Watts has revealed that he wants The Rolling Stones to get back out on the road for their 50th anniversary.
Despite closing in on their 70th birthday, the members of The Rolling Stones show no signs of slowing down. Remaining an enormous concert attraction, the band’s 2007 tour ‘A Bigger Bang’ raked in an enormous $360 million.
Martin Scorcese shot a concert film, with fans across the globe testifying to the band’s continuing vitality as a touring act.
With their 50th anniversary looming, speculation concerning a new tour has dogged The Rolling Stones. The band began rehearsals late last year, but it is not known how formal these practises actually were.
Speaking to 6Music, drummer Charlie Watts explained that he wants to see the band get back out on the road. “It would be lovely next year to do some shows because it will be fifty years” he said. “Ronnie plays, I still play, Mick sings, he can do it anyway, I think Keith is doing some records.”
Continuing, the drummer revealed some of the stresses and strains which lay behind their recent rehearsals. “Anyway it would be great if we did, we are just getting to an age where it’s getting a bit difficult to get it together and it’s such a bloody performance getting us together.”
Meanwhile, Ronnie Wood recently dropped by Absolute Radio to act as guest host. Playing ‘Paint It Black’ the guitarist explained that The Rolling Stones are always afraid that Keith Richards will blow the opening.
“Every time we play this live on stage Keith, when he starts it, we always have this moment of hesitation where we don’t know if he’s going to get the intro right or not. It’s very funny because everybody takes a deep breath and sort of ‘Oh no, I hope it’s going to work’.”
“He’s always managed to struggle through it, but whether it’s the right timing or not, just stumbles into it, and we look at each other and Charlie goes boom boom boom, you know, he has to bring in the tempo, and he’s usually cracking up laughing, he does it because he’s like ‘How did we get this number off the ground?’”
The Rolling Stones have yet to confirm any plans for a 50th anniversary tour.
