British Sea Power Storm Hinterland

Headline set from indie dons

Indie oddballs British Sea Power have played a storming set at this year’s Hinterland showcase event.

Spread across Glasgow, Hinterland is an ambitious attempt to join Scotland’s often secluded music scene with the planet at large. Sure, the Jocks may have given the world Orange Juice, Teenage Fanclub, Belle & Sebastian and more but what have they done for us recently?

A lot, it would seem. Playing to packed venues across the city a number of acts proved that Glasgow remains swarming with up and coming talent.

Playing a headline slot at the famous Arches venue, British Sea Power did not disappoint with a storming set. The band played a number of tracks from across their studio albums, ending with their now obligatory fifteen minute noise jam.

With guitarist Noble climbing the lighting rigs out over the audience’s heads, British Sea Power played on. Suddenly a bear entered from stage left, a seven foot walking rug gyrating to the music.

Who else could it be but Jeffrey Lewis? Following on from British Sea Power the New York songwriter endured sound problems, with four separate DI boxes being used to cure his sonic ills.

In the end, though, it was all worth it as the anti folk star ploughed through an entertaining set dedicated to sound engineers across the world.

Look out for a full report from Hinterland soon!
