Bob Dylan is set to play a special festival show at a tiny town in Southern Australia.
One of the most iconic songwriters in the history of rock music, Bob Dylan can pick and choose his live appearance. The singer has no reason to tour, yet is still capable of producing an enthralling rock show.
With an enormous fanbase, Bob Dylan can fill massive arena venues. Yet the songwriter still longs for the occasional intimate show, and kicked off last year’s British tour with a date at the Roundhouse in London.
Now the efforts of one fan mean that Bob Dylan is set to play a festival show at a small town in Australia. The singer will headline Bluesfest in tiny Byron Bay, some 165KM south of nearest city Brisbane.
A five day Easter festival, Bluesfest punches above its weight with appearances this year from BB King, old touring partner Elvis Costello and more.
Speaking to ABC News, organiser Peter Noble explained that he has been chasing the performer for almost a decade. “He used to say, ‘Don’t put me in any town I’ve never heard of’, and finally we’ve done it. Although I think he’s heard of Byron now.”
“Bob Dylan and B.B. King are rock royalty, and we especially wanted to get Dylan because of the counter-culture and protest music in his early career representing a lot of what Byron Bay was once about,” Noble added.
“Byron used to be such an anti-establishment hippy town and to get Bob to play here has always been the Holy Grail…Elvis Costello is the icing on the cake of the best line-up we’ve had in years.”
Taking place between April 21st – 25th, Bluesfest also boasts performances from Mavis Staples, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Michael Franti and Ben Harper’s new project Fistful Of Mercy.
