Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack is set to join Northern Irish indie giants Ash on their upcoming tour.
With Bloc Party taking a short break, Russell Lissack is determined not to be left twirling his thumbs. The guitarist has already launched a side project, with the electro shapes of Pin Me Down due to hit record shops later this year.
In the meantime Russell Lissack has decided to join forces with close friends Ash. The Northern Irish indie trio are currently working on their ambitious single series, releasing one new track a week.
Due to launch a new British tour this summer, Bloc Party star Russell Lissack is set to hop aboard the tour bus. Speaking to BBC 6Music the guitarist seemed to be excited at the prospect.
“I’ve got over 10 years in the back catalogue to revise at the moment so there are a lot of late nights for me” he joked.
Ash singer Tim Wheeler phoned the guitarist to invite him on tour. “He called me about a month or so ago and asked if I’d like to do it, and I would like to do it, so simple as that really,” Lissack said. “And then it was just working out any issues with timing and stuff.”
Confirming the story, Tim Wheeler told BBC 6Music that the collaboration was planned before Christmas. “I was at home at Christmas and reading about Bloc Party being on hiatus and I knew Russell had been playing our songs before” he revealed.
“So I thought, this will be interesting. I thought I’d give it a shot and give him a call and he was up for it.”
Ash / Russell Lissack will launch their new tour later this year.
