British indie giants Bloc Party were forced to cancel a scheduled set at the Ultra Music festival in Miami due to singer Kele Okereke contracting an illness.
Bloc Party have worked virtually non-stop since the release of their third album ‘Intimacy’ last year. Recorded jointly with Paul Epworth and Jacknife Lee, the set divided fans but the resultant tour was acclaimed as one of their best with Bloc Party on ferocious form.
The group are currently in American playing a number of dates. However these appear to have taken their toll on singer Kele Okereke, who has been taken ill with viral pharyngitis – an inflammation of the throat.
In a statement to fans Bloc Party apologised for the cancellation. “Kele has contracted viral pharyngitis and is unable to perform today at the Ultra Music Festival in beautiful Miami, FL.
“We send our heartfelt apologies to all our fans and the Ultra Music Festival organizers. We hope to return to Miami, FL, at our earliest opportunity,” they said.
Also due to perform at the Ultra Music festival were Canadian group Crystal Castles, The Prodigy and The Ting Tings.
Bloc Party recently announced details of a new album. ‘Intimacy Remixed’ is the band’s first remix album to be made available worldwide. Containing some sensational reworkings of ‘Intimacy’ by an all star cast of producers it is much more than a stop gap, showing a new side to the band.
