Spiky of hair, toilet of humour – massively successful punk three piece Blink 182 are set to return.
As far as re-unions go, Blink 182 was one of this year’s most unexpected. The band split back in 2005 and have enjoyed lengthy careers away from one another. Seemingly happy in their respective projects, the band put aside their differences and announced their re-union at the Grammies.
Blink 182 posted a message on their official website shortly afterwards which read:
“To put it simply, We’re back. We mean, really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album.”
The band rejuvenated their friendship after Travis Barker was involved in a serious plane crash. One of only two survivors, he experienced second and third degree burns across his body.
Blink 182 made the decision to reform soon after, with Barker undergoing treatment in order to be fit for a potential tour. With the band’s first date in four years fast approaching, the punk group took time out to discuss their re-union.
“We can’t wait,” bass player Mark Hoppus told Rolling Stone. “It’s a strange feeling to have, after not touring with Blink for the past five years, to think that in just a few days, we’ll be hitting the road and playing all of these sold-out shows.”
“All of our techs have been down there to see the stage set up, and they’re e-mailing me, going, ‘Oh my God, there are so many speakers, just so many lights.’ I haven’t seen it myself, but the pictures I’ve seen look ridiculous. Everything kind of moves and joins and separates to make these huge video screens, so its pretty complicated.”
Hoppus admitted that many people who come to see them may never have seen Blink 182 during their initial incarnation. “Really, it’s kind of a reintroduction to the band. We’re going to be playing all of the singles, and all of our favorite songs from our past records.”
Blink 182 are due to visit Europe later in the year.
