Black Sabbath Hit Birmingham

Re-union reaches lift off...

Black Sabbath launched their re-union with a show in Birmingham on Saturday night (May 19th).

Metal was born in the Midlands. Lumbering out of the centre of British heavy industry, it quickly became a form capable to stomping all over the globe.

So when Black Sabbath announced news of their return, it was only natural for them to return to Birmingham. Returning to their hometown, the iconic group announced plans for a one off show at the city’s Academy venue.

Taking place on Saturday night (May 19th) the show saw drummer Tommy Clufetos fill in for the absent Bill Ward. A massive success, the sell out concert saw Black Sabbath draw on the full power of their iconic back catalogue.

Immediately after the show Geezer Butler posted a short note to fans, praising them and guitarist Tony Iommi – currently battling cancer.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you Birmingham. Best fans ever- you brought out the best in us. It was a privilege playing for you tonight. Tony was a hero – you were the best medicine he has had. Proud to be a Brummie.”
