Beastie Boys Out Of Lolllapalooza

Yeah Yeah Yeahs take their place

Brooklyn trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been added to the bill for this year’s Lollapalooza, with Beastie Boys being forced to pull out.

It was the news no one expected. Beastie Boys had been working on their new album for the best part of a year, with the hip hop crew set to return with their first rap album in some five years.

Titled ‘Hot Sauce Committee’ it boasts appearances from the likes of Santigold and is said to recall their ‘Ill Communication’ era. The band had been teasing fans recently, unleashing a slew of re-issues including expanded editions of albums such as ‘Paul’s Boutique’.

However the band’s plans have been thrown into disarray. Legendary founder MCA – real name Adam Yauch – has been diagnosed with cancer. After finding a lump in his throat the rapper went to a doctor, who uncovered a growth on his lymph nodes.

Forced to undergo immediate treatment, Adam Yauch recently sent a video message to fans explaining the situation. The rapper claimed that the treatment would not affect his voice and that while ‘Hot Sauce Committee’ is to be delayed it would definitely be released.

The rap group have pulled out of all upcoming concerts, including the epic Lollapalooza event in Chicago. By way of a replacement, Brooklyn trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been drafted in.

The band released their third album ‘It’s Blitz’ earlier this year, which contained the sterling single ‘Off With Their Heads’. Acclaimed by critics, Yeah Yeah Yeahs followed this with a series of British appearances.

ClashMusic caught the group at Scotland’s T In The Park, with Yeah Yeah Yeahs giving a spectacular performance. Decked out in a gorgeous outfit Karen O was in fine voice as the band ran through tracks from their recent album.

Lollapalooza takes place in Chicago and boasts a truly stunning bill. Synth-rock legends Depeche Mode are due to headline, and by coincidence singer Dave Gahan recently had a tumour removed, delaying a European tour.

Also due to perform are Arctic Monkeys, TV On The Radio, mental metal types Tool and Jane’s Addiction – whose vocalist Perry Farrell founded the event.

Lollapalooza takes place between August 7th – 9th.
