Returning indie icons Arctic Monkeys played a stunning show at the O2 Academy Brixton last night (August 26th).
Arctic Monkeys are back. After a two year wait, some stunning solo projects and a DJ career (hello Matt Helders) the Sheffield band released their eagerly awaited third album earlier this week.
A stunning return it has gathered sensational reviews. Obviously influenced by Alex Turner’s side project The Last Shadow Puppets, ‘Humbug’ is a grandiose, melancholic affair that has left fans reeling.

Arctic Monkeys emerged onstage at the O2 Academy Brixton clearly eager to get back to doing what a band does best – play live. Opening with ‘My Propeller’ the group then launched into their Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds cover ‘Red Right Hand’.
The B-side of their current single ‘Crying Lightning’ the cover appears on the seven inch vinyl version – available exclusively through Oxfam. Frontman Alex Turner then paused and said: “Have we got time for one more?”
Ripping through ‘Crying Lightning’ Arctic Monkeys were on sensational form, plunging through their back catalogue with barely a gap between songs. “Did you enjoy Them Crooked Vultures?” Turner asked the crowd.
“I certainly did. We were fortunate to make a record with two of those chaps, and I can tell you they’re a great pair of bastards. I’d like to dedicate this song to them” said the singer before beginning ‘Pretty Visitors’.
Leaving the stage to the strains of ‘Fluorescent Adolescent’ Arctic Monkeys then returned for blast through a short encore. The band played ‘Secret Door’ before finishing with ‘505.
